  • Flybe offers six routes in total for summer from London City with choice of up to 90 flights a week

Street performers are a common and much-photographed sight in Edinburgh during its world-famous annual three-week-long festival in August. To capture the spirit of the Royal Mile, Flybe and London City Airport decided that a ‘living statue’ cabin crew wearing the airline’s eye-catching purple uniform was the perfect way to surprise passengers today (5th July 2018) to highlight just how quick and easy it is to travel to many of this year’s many festivals being held across the UK and mainland Europe using the airline’s network.

Flybe is operating six routes for summer from London City with a total choice of up to 90 flights a week so there is always one to fly customers close to where they want to be!

Roy Kinnear, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer, commented:

“We hope London City Airport’s commuters enjoyed something a little different today as we brought a small taste of Edinburgh’s famous street theatre to the terminal.

“Flybe’s frequent, conveniently-timed flights from London’s most central airport means that getting to the Scottish capital is quick and easy. Given the distance involved, our schedule even makes day returns eminently possible. Customers can arrive fresh and relaxed and, in August especially, enjoy some of the many attractions of the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival and its Fringe.”

Richard Hill, Chief Commercial Officer at London City Airport, said:

“To highlight Flybe’s domestic and international summer connections from London City Airport, we wanted to turn a few heads at the airport and capture the spirit of Edinburgh’s street performers with this unique ‘living statue’.

“As we approach the summer holidays, the convenience and central location of London City Airport makes it an obvious choice for a cultural trip or city break to one of Flybe’s six destinations.”

With London City Airport located just 21 minutes by public transport from London Bridge, and Flybe offering 90-minute flights to Edinburgh up to four times daily, Festival fans can avoid traffic jams and overcrowded trains and head up to the Scottish capital in record time. Edinburgh was London City’s second-most popular route in terms of passenger numbers in 2017.

Flybe also offers flights from London City Airport to Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Belfast, Exeter and Rennes; and its franchise partners Blue Islands and Eastern Airways operate services to Jersey and Aberdeen respectively from London City Airport. You can check out detailed schedules and book at
